All foreigners legally living and/or working in Denmark have the right to attend free Danish language lessons.

The right to attend free Danish language lessons is limited to 3 years from the date of your first registration in Denmark. It is therefore important that you contact a Danish language school as soon as possible after your registration in Denmark.

You must have:

1. Your address here in Denmark or
2. A work contract and tax number

Daytime classes meet 3 or 5 days a week. Evening classes meet twice a week.

The Danish Language course consists of different levels and modules. The signing up interview includes a placement test. Each module is completed with a nationally standardized test, and the complete course of study is completed with one of the national exams – Dansk Prøve 1, 2 or 3.

The timing of your module test is based on your individual language learning progression, and therefore the length of time it takes to learn Danish will vary. Most students take one of the national exams within 2 – 3 years.
